Custom Orthotics from Active Care Physiotherapy
Custom orthotics help correct problems caused by the most every day of activities – walking and running. Many of us have incorrect gait (walking action) and this in turn puts excess strain on various parts of our skeletal system, and especially our feet and ankles.
Many gait problems can be solved using orthotics, custom-made insoles that slip into footwear to restore your correct foot position. Especially made to exactly fit your feet, custom foot orthotics are commonly used to treat:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Heel spurs
- Shin splints
- Achilles tendonitis
- I.T. band syndrome
- Metatarsalgia
- Morton’s Neuroma
- Flat feet / fallen arches
- Heel pain and foot pain
Who performs your Custom Orthotics Assessment
One of our Pedorthists on staff will perform your assessment and make your custom orthotics.
What Are Custom Orthotics?
A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the correct position. They are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. Custom foot orthotics reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment.
Orthotics For Athletes And Sportspeople
By correcting your posture and gait, custom orthotics can actually improve your performance on the field, on the track or on the ice. Orthotics can improve both the fit and contact area of your boots, running shoes or skates. Call us for details.
What Happens During An Orthotics Assessment?
During your custom orthotic fitting, our therapist will make a detailed biomechanical examination of your lower limbs including your feet. After this examination, which will include you walking in both shoes and bare feet so we can assess your gait and natural stance, an impression will be made of your feet. This impression helps to create the mold from which your orthotic is created, for a custom-made fit.
